Welcome to the World´s game also known as Soccer in Canada and the States, and football in the rest of the world.

We are going to cover some Fun, Cool and Interesting Soccer Facts and also dive into the History of Soccer.

For the none Soccer fans of you who don´t know what Soccer is (I doubt there are people out there who don´t know anything about soccer):
Soccer is a ball and team sport, with two teams, each team has 10 field players and 1 goal keepper making it 22 players on the field (also called Pitch)

Interesting Soccer Facts

During an average 90 minute game, a professional soccer player runs 48 kilometers or 29 miles.

A usual soccer match is 90 minutes long and consists of two halves, each 45 minutes with a break of 15 minutes between the halves.

Soccer is the most popular sport in over 200 countries and amongst 250 million football players. This makes it the world´s most popular sport.

Soccer is called football in almost all parts of the world, except United States and Canada (surprisingly it is called Soccer in these countries)

The United States have the most official soccer players in the world, almost 18 million.

Arthur Wharton became the first black professional soccer player, he was a goalkeeper, born in Ghana and played for Rotherham an English League Team in 1889.

In 1996 George Weah paid for his Liberian team mates trikots and expenses in order to be able to enter the African Nations Cup. George Weah is a politician in his Country Liberia now and is loved by his people. He is been awarded as africans player of the year 3 times and featured in Fifa´s 100 list of best players. Soccer History facts

In the History of Soccer there can be found early evidence of the game being played as a sport was found occurence in China during the 2nd and 3rd centuries.

It is widely spread that footballs early growth of the modern game we know today started in England.

In 1365 King Edward III banned soccer owing to the growing incidents of violence and military indulgence in the ball sport.

The history of modern-day soccer was established in the year 1863. In October, eleven representatives from several London clubs and schools met at the Freemason’s Tavern to set up common fundamental rules to control the matches amongst them. The outcome of this meeting was the formation of the “Football Association”

The Organziation FIFA was established in the year 1904.

Messi won the award “player of the Year” 4 times and C. Ronaldo 3 times. Nobody except Messi won this award more than 3 times.

In a game between Sportivo Ameliano and General Caballero in Paraguay, a total of 20 red cards have been given. That is a real fun fact about soccer.

Football balls or Soccer balls were made from the inflated stomach tissue of executed Irish prisoners, until the year 1908.

Uruguay was the first country to host and win the World Cup in the year 1930, 13 Countires participated in the World Cup.

Oliver Kahn is the only Goalkeeper who received the “Best Player award” in a World Cup, all other recipients with this award, including Linoel Messi and Diego Forlan are all strikers.

Oliver Kahn´s fellow german Franz Beckenbauer is the only one in the history of World Cup, who won the title as a player and coach for Germany. Beckenbauer led the German national team to their title in 1974 as a player and won the title in 1990 as the coach for the German team.

Speaking of Germans, Germany is the country which made it the most times to the finals compared to other countries.
What about the finals you ask? Brazil and Germany made it the most times to the finals of the World Cup.
But Brazil won the most World Cups (Brazil 5x , Germany 4x)

The World Cup is normally played every  four years, but due to World War 2 it was not played in the years 1942 and 1946.

The Soccer or football World Cup is the biggest Tournament in the world.

In the World Cup in the year of 1950 India withdrew their Soccer team because FIFA refused to let them play barefoot.

A horror scenario: You are about to kick the penalty shot infront of thousand of people and as you kick the ball your pants slip off. No this is not a dream, this literally happened to Guiseppe Meazza when he was kicking the penalty shot in the semifinal game of the World Cup in 1938.

Netherlands has the most finishes in the top two without being a champion.

South Africa is the only host team that was eliminated already in the first round.

Sir Viv Richards is the only person who played in the Football World Cup  and World Cup of Cricket.

TheJules Rimet Trophy for the Champion of the WC (World Cup) is made out of solid 18 karat gold and weights more than 6 kilograms  that is around 13 pounds.
